- Making the 'trend' out of Korea Panting

-'A Feigning Girl' wears 'Hanbok'

-The beginning of 'Feign'series

-Kim Hyun Jung's definition of 'Feign' is honest and delightful

-The Painting that signal the 'Feign'series

-'Feign' series will continue

-Artist Kim Hyun Jung dreams everyday

Hello, CultureM MAgazine viewers. I am a korean painting artist Kim Hyun Jing nice to meet you.

I have been working on the projects called 'Feign' since 2009, and so far I have done 8 solo exhibitions and participated in the seceral group exhibitions.

I am a full time artist now.

My paintings are done with Korean painting technique

People say that it's the pop art of korean traditional paintings since I use traditional materials with traditional painting styles where the nickname K-pop came from.

I also do collage work with korean traditional paper 'Hanji' for the clothing like 'jeogori' im my painting

Collage is a western art technique and you can see how westem and Asian art techniques are used together in my paintings

'A Feigning girl' wears 'Hanbok'

In order to convery the idea of 'Feign' I thought it would be very witty and deviating to paint a woman in elegant traditional costume behaving unsuitably or inelegantly

Elegant clothing could mean suits but I remembered my chidhood and decided that hnabok goes with my paingting much better.

the beginning of 'Feign' series

If could actually be more suitable to call it 'stare' but I wanted to make it sound wittier and more interesting to call it 'Feign'

The reason I thought of 'Feign' is beause I started to get over the pain that was caused by different relationships with other people since I was young.

It feit like I was healing myself by painting as a therapy

people can't help themselves but behave differently from whom they really are is order to confirm the society together.

'why do they do that? why can't they do what their heart tell them to do? so I started series to reflect how people behave so differently from how they want to behave through my paintings.

I believe that the materials are still limitless. As I paint more and more. my materials are funnier and less heavy than before. I think painting is my therapy.

Kim Hyun Jung's definition of 'Feign' is honest and delightful

Each of my painting has different stories. So in order to deliver the story more accurately, I sometimes add something to my title or I explain in detail on Facebook or my blog

Although each painging hoids different stories, the general message I want my viewers to find is wit.

If is fun, Life as if is hard enough already so I want people to be able to laugh about it when they look at my paintings

if is portrait of myself so if they call the paingting 'cheeky' it means they are aclling me cheeky.

It could hurt my feelings but I actually find it funny because my own painting healed me. I hope people can also enjoy the monent whem they see paintings.

Adding the modern sense to korean traditional painting

I wanted to paint Hanbok realistically even the crisp texture  of it, but it is very difficult to express that just by painting it.

I tried drawing it or adding actual Hanbok fabric to my painting. In the end Hanji with another Hanji seems to work better together.

So I went to Hanji craftsman and learned how to make hanji. I also went to traditional dye craftsman to learn his work as well. I do collage work with Hanji I made myself.

Why do my paintings have transparent effect? Actually I can paint faster if I don't think about transparency because i can combine all the process into one.

The reason I pursue this painting style is for this one sentence "Although you are acting this way, I can see through you" I want to convey that message in my painting.

Even if you wearing the clothes, I wanted to show people what was happening under the big flare of skirt.

The painting that signal the 'Feign' series

if I describe this painting as it is: a woman in traditional clothing splat down on the floor eating cheap ramen off of the lid.

yet if you follow her stare, you can see coffee spilling out of brand cup in a luxury bag.

It's called 'Oops!'(Acha!, In Korean). Though the painting show you the moment we would say 'Oops' as if we spilled coffee on an expensive bag

but i actually used Chinese character<我 : myself> for I and <差 : lack> meaning short comings. So the painting is actually the confession of my own shortcomings.

the second painting is me delivering food with a scooter. We order a lot of fast food these days since it's fast and delicious.

I realized that this might be the motivation of my life so the idea of me delivering the food myself.

also humanized scooter and the food by calling this painting 'you move me'.

I am personally very attached to this painting very much.

'Feign' series will continue

In a short term, I am preparing a solo exhibition called 'Feign Playground' next March.

In a long run, the answer to the question "How long will 'Feign' series continue?"

can be "Let's be honest with myself" I am not painting this because someone told me to,

but my goal is to paint as long as i have story to tell.

As I am painting like a personal journal, my life itself is my material and i still have so many interesting stories in every moment of my life so i want to continue this project further.

Artist Kim Hyun Jung dreams everyday

K-POP is very big these days but it only means Korean pop music. So I carefully protest that the word is too narrowed by defining only Korean music.

I believe that the other arts likes painting also has great potential to have title like K-POP.

Other than that i also would like to start a new genre called "social drawing" I realized that i was too fixated on the idea that Kim Hyun Jung must do this painting alone.

When you look at dancing or music, the work is well distributed. For instance, there are song_writer, composer, producer, singer or chorographer and so on.

However fine art has this stereotype that one artist must complete his work alone.

I am progressing the idea of 'social drawing'.

To be more specific I want to create opportunity where audience can really participate in creating an art with me through social networking.
